Guidelines For Use Of
The Logsdon School of Theology Chapel
  1. The Building and its Purpose: The Logsdon School of theology Chapel is essentially a Christian educational and worship facility.   Therefore, all groups, persons and activities using the building must conform to its dignity and purpose, as well as Hardin-Simmons' Baptist heritage.

No food or drink may be taken into the Chapel proper.  All use of tobacco or alcoholic beverages is strictly forbidden in and around the facility.

No event related to a commercial enterprise or business activity may be held in the building.  Hence, there must be no tickets sold or admission charges.

  2. Priority:  Hardin-Simmons University activities in general and Logsdon School of Theology activities in particular will have precedence over all other uses of the facility.

  3. Scheduling:  All uses of the Chapel and its related areas must be scheduled through the Secretary at The Moody Center and approved by the Facilities Coordinator.  Major events such as recitals, conferences, and weddings, should be placed on the calendar at least three months in advance.

  4. Weddings:  While the building is not designed as a "wedding chapel," the University is aware that it is a lovely place for a Christian couple to exchange wedding vows.  However, the couple should recognize that using an educational facility for a wedding poses certain special requirements.  the couple should have some current direct connection with Hardin-Simmons University.   Examples include students, faculty or faculty dependent, board member, or alumnus.

  5. Fees:  The standard wedding fee is $350.00.   The fee includes use of the Chapel for a rehearsal on one day and wedding the next.   It also includes the public address system technician's fee and the hostess fee.   All normal cleaning costs are included.  For the wedding to be placed on the calendar, a $50 non-refundable fee is required at the time of scheduling.

Please note, if candles are used, they must be dripless or a covering must be used to protect the carpet.

A small reception room is available but is not recommended for more than forty guests.

For information on regular fees for events other then weddings, please contact the Facilities Coordinator at The Moody Center.

The user also takes full responsibility for any damages incurred to the Chapel.  If an event is canceled at least two weeks prior to the time of the event, prepaid charges will be refunded.

  6. Musical instruments: The Chapel contains a pipe organ and a grand piano.

The grand piano is kept in generally acceptable tune.  However, if special tuning is required, that is the responsibility of the persons scheduling the facility.  the piano is not meant for routine music practice.

All music used in weddings and other special events must comply with the Christian nature of Hardin-Simmons University and be both musically and theologically appropriate.
